What is a United States Waiver?

Most criminal convictions, which include Absolute and Conditional Discharges in Canada make you ineligible to enter the United States.  A Canadian Pardon does not grant you entry into the U.S., so you still require a Waiver. A U.S. Waiver application usually takes 6-10 months to process; therefore it is essential to apply for your U.S. Waiver well in advance of the date you wish to enter the U.S..

Over the last few years, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has taken measures to increase border security. Have your Waiver ready to avoid the embarrassment of being detained at the border, deported or possibly having your vehicle and property seized.

If you have a Canadian Criminal Record and you have never attempted to enter the United States, you should postpone your visit, if possible.   You should apply for a United States Entry Waiver as soon as possible.  United States entry waivers are valid for a specific period of time and must be renewed.
